Víctor Hugo Núñez

Img103-466x700.jpg

In the work of the sculptor Victor Hugo Núñez are combined games and rituals, the erotic being and the searcher of the great hidden secrets. Each work is assembled in the search of the essential senses of the human being, the lover and the playful child, the dreamer and the nonconformist, the one who shouts the truth and the one who looks for his center, his explanation.

His pieces pay homage to beings and events as diverse as the dead and disappeared, the beauty of creative nature, women, Mexican artisans, Indian peoples, personal relationships, love and desire. Always a tribute to the imagination, always in search of aesthetic beauty and the best technical resolution.

Beings that can be men or animals or animal-men, that seem to be rescued from all the mythologies of humanity and from the profane depth of popular arts, from the root of a people that searches for its creative reason in fantasy and recreates it with fun.

The materials are all that can be transformed, a steel wire, mud, stone, metal, bronze, polyester resin, mosquito netting, in short, even a paste of sugar cane will be transformed into a saint, a mermaid or a Christ.

His artistic formation begins in 1960, with studies of drawing and sketch with Gracia Barrios, in the School of Fine Arts of Santiago de Chile. Very soon after, between 1961 and 1963, he studied design and ceramics at the School of Applied Arts.At the same time, in 1962, he studied singing at the National Conservatory of Music.

In 1964 he enters the School of Fine Arts, specializing in sculpture taught by Ricardo Mesa, where he studies until 1970.

At that time Victor Hugo is president of the Center of Students and Jose Balmes, director. Simultaneously he is assistant professor and later master of sculpture, when the school is located in the Parque Forestal.
